ORCHARDS

A 300-HA DEVELOPMENT HUB

LOS PRINCIPIOS

“Los Principios”, located 75 km from the city of San Juan, to the south of 25 de Mayo, was the very first pistachio orchard that led to PISTACHOS DE LOS ANDES (Agro de Cuyo S.A). This area is ideal for growing pistachios because of its agroclimatic conditions. “Los Principios” started farming this nut in 1998; using Pioneer rootstock and Kerman variety as producers and Peters as a pollinator variety. This 75-ha plantation, is currently producing high and quality yields according to international standards.

“Los Principios” has given us the art of growing pistachios and has also given way to our present decision making regarding our business.  We stand for a sustainable production and high organoleptic quality. This is possible thanks to the specific characteristics offered by Punta del Agua; especially as regards its soil which shapes the extraordinary taste of our pistachios.

At present it is about to be certified in compliance with Global Gap.

LA PERSEVERANCIA

It was born in 2015, located to the east of “Los Principios”; it is the first orchard where Agro De Cuyo S.A. has been carrying out new pistachio planting by using its own UCB1 rootstocks germinated from certified UCB-1 seeds, directly imported from the United States. Having deep knowledge of this valuable tool, we have successfully engaged in the full production cycle; starting from the moment the seed touches the soil to the final product.

We have followed the same planting scheme as in our first orchard, a 6mt x 5mt design with Kerman as a producer variety and Peters as a pollinator one.

This 75-ha plantation has been up and running for a few years now.

This second orchard has resulted from our expertise after many years in the business: Our expectations are high as regards reaching the highest yields by means of UCB1 rootstock. It will be the first orchard in Argentina to carry out pistachio planting in this way.  Just like “Los Principios”, “La perseveracia” is about to be certified in compliance with Global Gap.

LA ESCONDIDA

By making use of the knowledge we have gained through our experience in this business, we are currently developing this pistachio orchard; its soil preparation and irrigation systems are under way. La Escondida is also located in Punta del Agua. It is a 150-ha plantation with a 6mx4m plant design; this will mean a 25% increase in productivity.

New planting is going to be carried out by our own UCB1 rootstocks of seeds certified in the United States. It is essential to know the origin of the plants to achieve success. These plants are to be grafted on Kerman as a producer variety and Peters as a pollinizer. Once all the steps of planting are completed, we can start the Global Gap certification process.
